WCTSMA State Starts Today

Over 800 WCTSMA members are expected to converge on the Spokane Convention Center today 4/24/15. With support staff, exhibitors, and guests our association expects over 1000 participants at this year's Spring Symposium and State Competition. This year marks the 21st annual meeting slated to start at 9am this morning. Leadership activities start this morning with testing this afternoon. Tomorrow is busy with all day testing followed by our closing awards ceremony.
 

WCTSMA State Officer Allise Jackson Testifies in Olympia


Student Leaders from Yelm were requested by OSPI to testify before the House Education Committee.  Their role was to show how applied, hands-on learning in the CTE classroom connects to community and career activities through Career and Technical Studeent Leadership Organizations (CTSOs).  Calli Hyder, FFA President; Allise Jackson, Sports Medicine President; and Joe Donan, Robotics President; showed tremendous poise and articulated how these programs give students opportunities at local, state, and national competitions.  In addition, they shared how being a part of CTSOs have insipred them to make a difference in our community.  Quite proud of these terrific student leaders.

EWU Invites WCTSMA for a Tour 4/23/15 2pm

State participants are invited for a special guided tour of EWU and the ATEP facilities in Cheney Thursday April 23, 2015 at 2pm sharp. EWU students and staff will take WCTSMA participants through a rotational tour of their facilities prior to our State Competition. Space is limited. Please RSVP with Larry Howe, Executive Director before 4/14/15 to reserve a spot for your team.

Whitworth Partners With WCTSMA For State Social April 23, 2015 6-8pm

WCTSMA is proud to announce our partnership with Whitworth University to host our State Social on their campus April 23, 2015 from 6-8pm. Details will be emailed to participants soon.

Schools will check-in for the competition during the event. Your State Officers and host, Whitworth University, will have short presentations followed by campus tours and socializing while enjoying light appetizers. Schools will be invited to purchase dinner at Whitworth for $7.75 starting at 5pm. Schools are encouraged to RSVP to our Whitworth contact on the details above or to Larry Howe, Executive Director.

Governor visits Yelm CTE Programs

Following Civic Engagement Day at the Capital, Governor Jay Inslee visited Yelm High School to see their CTE programs in action. He specifically asked to see their medical programs. The Sports Medicine program was able to show their classroom and practicum class to the governor. Students and instructors were able to interact closely with Governor Inslee regarding educations issues that are at the forefront of legislation this year. All CTE programs participated in a roundtable discussion with the governor regarding some of these same issues
